Parking Amstelveen City Center

January 2023

About the Company

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield is the premier global developer and operator of flagship destinations.

Currently, the organisation owns and operates 92 shopping centres, including 55 flagships in the most dynamic cities in Europe and the United States. In total, these centres receive around 1.2 billion visits per year.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has set the objective to further improve their CSR with their ‘Better places 2030” plan. This ambitious vision means they pledged to reduce their energy consumption by 50% in 2030. For Stadshart Amstelveen it meant that all lights needed to be upgraded to energy-efficient LEDs.

Saving energy without anyone noticing

As the installation cables were poured in concrete, Kropman suggested a wireless solution and introduced Mymesh. For the company, going wireless initially felt a bit like a gamble. They had never heard of wireless lighting control and were in doubt
whether or not a system could manage so many luminaries at once. However, after doing thorough research and looking at the references Chess had, they realised that it was indeed possible. Mymesh connected over 1200 devices across two big
parkings; the Stadsplein– and Stadschouwburg parking.

Looking back, Unibail–Rodamco–Westfield saved 30% on installation costs and reduced energy consumption significantly with 50% on top off the saving by using
LED lighting. The most beautiful part is that visitors don’t even notice the reduction. Lighting at the premises is dimmed to 70% instead of 100% when presence is detected whilst this difference is not noticeable by the human eye.
When there is no presence Mymesh dims back to 10%.

Mymesh worked so well the network is expanded in 2020 with another 650 lights in the shopping area.
